I was pondering my favorite books and the first one that came up was "Catcher in the Rye" -I read it when I was twelve years old, my older sister Leslie was a fan of Salinger's work. Because I was invited to participate in an art show of interpretations of artists' favorite books, that came up. After rereading it through for the first time in decades, I realized that it was no longer my fave. What appeared to me was the book by Jodi Hauptman, "Hilma af Klint, What Stands Behind the Flowers" cataloging Klint's botanical works, and I really love it right now, at a time when the snow is many inches high and a small mountain of snow covers the view outside of my window.
She was so advanced an artist, way ahead of her time and using color combinations that were ecstatic. So there you have the longwinded version of what this piece is about. :)
The piece will be showing in Los Angeles in April 2026, location to be announced in the future. Mat Gleason is curator.
